The Chalice Lighter Program
The Chalice Lighter enables congregations to take a significant step into the future by responding to their call.
The Chalice Lighter Program provides grants to congregations in the Pacific Northwest District (PNWD). Grants are funded exclusively through contributions from more than 1400 PNWD Unitarian Universalists who participate as Chalice Lighters. Chalice Lighter grants are intended to assist societies in achieving their growth potential.
Past grants have been used by congregations to provide:
- Professional religious leadership
- An outdoor sign and landscaping
- Building improvements
- Start-up support for a new congregation
- An elevator for accessibility
- Chairs for a new sanctuary
Congregations facing the financial challenges of growth are encouraged to explore the possibilities the Chalice Lighter Program offers; and consider combining a Chalice Lighter grant with other resources such as the Pacific Northwest Unitarian Universalist Growth Foundation.

Become a Chalice Lighter
Being a Chalice Lighter brings you the joy of watching your $15 contribution two or three times a year multiply to grants of more than $14,000 supporting our liberal religion as it grows its presence in the Pacific Northwest. When you become a Chalice Lighter, that amount grows by at least another $15.
By being a Chalice Lighter, you help your congregation qualify for a Chalice Lighter grant, which requires that at least 30% of members be active Chalice Lighters. And remember, the more of us who write these small checks with great love, the larger the benefit to growing congregations.
